摘要: We applied a joint survey approach integrating time-domain electromagnetic soundings and single-station ambient vibration surveys in the Middle Aterno Valley (MAV), an intermontane basin central Italy locus of 2009 L'Aquila earthquake. By imaging buried interface between infilling deposits top pre-Quaternary bedrock, we reveal 3-D geometry gain insights into long-term evolution. reconstruct complex subsurface architecture, characterized by three main depocenters separated thresholds. Basin infill thickness varies from ~200-300 m north to more than 450 m southeast. Our model suggests strong structural control on architecture highlights that MAV experienced considerable modifications its over time. The shape recent still ongoing predominant tectonic NW-SE trending Paganica - San Demetrio Fault System (PSDFS), which cross-cuts older ca. ENE- NNE- extensional faults. Furthermore, postulate present-day arrangement PSDFS is result linkage two previously isolated fault segments. provide constraints location southeastern boundary PSDFS, defining overall ~19 km-long system. This allows for earthquakes larger M6.5. study emphasizes benefit combining easily-deployable geophysical methods reconstructing tectonically-controlled basin. provided us with consistent match these independent estimations substratum depth within 15%.
