An Evaluation of Three Methods to Measure the Dynamic Elastic Modulus of Steel

摘要: The dynamic elastic modulus of 1018 steel was measured with three different instruments: the Grindo-Sonic, Modul-R, and piezoelectric ultrasonic composite oscillator technique (PUCOT). In total, 276 tests were made. overall mean for all specimens methods 207.1 GPa a standard deviation 2.75 (1.33%). values by PUCOT 208.1 0.86 (0.41%), 205.8 3.40 (1.65%), 207.9 2.80 (1.35%), respectively. means PUCOT, Modul-R fell within 0.39%, 0.48%, 0.63%, respectively, GPa. All instruments yielded comparable deviations. However, Grindo-Sonic quicker use than but more forgiving on specimen geometry other two instruments.
