摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the quantitative methods for study of vitamin D. The evaluation D activity was initially based upon its ability to cure rickets in experimental animals. With advent crystalline D, spectroscopic and colorimetric were soon developed. species' differences observed biological between vitamins D2 D3 brought about an awareness limitations existing methods. Thus, methodology field passed through stages increasing sophistication, graduating from simple complex chromatographic separations spectroscopy infrared region. gas–liquid chromatography (GLC), avenue opened investigation a large number biologically active compounds not readily defined by conventional techniques analysis. Vitamin however, has received very little attention this respect had until recently remained relatively unexplored GLC techniques. their precursors formed during photochemical transformation provitamins show characteristic ultraviolet absorption spectra 250 300 mμ.
