摘要: The paper considers academic Australian tourism research over the last thirty years. overview is written from perspective of a key and involved participant. approach to be followed uses data archival records as well subjective choice critical incidents. Key factors considered include state industry at 5 year time intervals, associated national political support for research. linked discussed changing role institutions, power individual scholars, issues relevance, knowledge management status, cultural context which encourages following or fusion traditions. It suggested that viewing study in wide framework emphasising its connections many other phenomena offers bright future development
