摘要: Abstract Recent research has greatly changed our knowledge of processes affecting organic matter in the water column. Here we review some this recent and suggest several areas which are particularly challenging for future studies. Major discussed newly developed methods dissolved carbon (DOC) analysis implications results, potential significance colloids seawater. advances techniques small, labile molecules radiotracer used to follow rates mechanisms biological consumption also discussed. Ocean-atmosphere transport photochemical can act as both sources sinks sea. This is an area where significant progress been made recently. Finally, discuss current river oceans particle sedimentation sea well limitations on knowledge.
