Religiosity and democratic attitudes: an empirical study of tolerance in Turkey

摘要: Following the end of Cold War and dissolution Soviet Bloc, a new wave democratization started to be experienced throughout world. Investigations these attempts concluded that some countries were more successful in processes while others embraced conservative attitudes maintain undemocratic status quo. What might factor(s) easing/hindering certain settings? This thesis aims answer this question. Focusing on significance individual for factors shaping attitudes, impact religiosity democratic is analyzed comparatively across four religious affiliations – Islam, Catholicism, Protestantism Orthodox Christianity- using 2005-2006 World Values Survey dataset. Once importance civic culture tolerance availability shown through statistical analyses, turns its attention specific subject; Turkey.
