Finding community and contesting heteronormativity: queer young people's engagement in an Australian online community

摘要: This study examines how queer young people in Australia are engaging an online community to address their marginalisation and oppression. Drawing on analysis of forums in-depth interviews with 14 participants, we use Durkheim's concept egoism the social model disability analyse role impact community. The findings indicate that not only provides a sense belonging for participants reduces experiences isolation, but also connects them resources networking opportunities foster political participation. In this way, operates as space understand potentially overcome marginality. It helps reach realisation it is heteronormative ‘society’ problem. doing so, emotional capital do something marginalisation.
