摘要: aquifer sands (28‐31 m), even though the total organic carbon content was very low. Rates of anaerobic H2, lactate, and formate consumption were also high in sands, relative to other strata. The higher microorganism numbers activities sediments likely reflect importance increased electron donor acceptor transport hydraulic conductivity presence sulfate near absence acceptors (O2 ,N O 3 , Fe 3+ ), methanogens, SRB, relatively reduction activity suggest that is dominant terminal electron-accepting process deep aquifer. In contrast aerobic Atlantic Coastal Plain sediments, at 30 m this east-central Texas contain greater anaerobes than aerobes. Low pH contents argue for oxidation pyrite or shallow This supplies deeper aquifers. Pyrite from with greatest abundance too enriched 34 S (up 58‰) have formed modern typical groundwater sulfate. Overall, our results resident microbiota are capable cycling sulfur aquifer, but probably without substantial remineralization formation.
