Prognosis with mechanical ventilation: the influence of disease, severity of disease, age, and chronic health status on survival from an acute illness.

摘要: This report presents a model for relating readily available clinical and physiologic measurements to prognosis from mechanical ventilation. Using data 571 acutely ill, ventilated patients admitted the intensive care units of 12 hospitals, it illustrates relationship between disease, initiating respiratory failure, acute severity patient's age chronic health status probability survival. The results indicate that, 296 deaths among patients, 142 (48%) could be identified on day ICU admission at 75% or greater risk hospital death; 49 these were estimated have 90% death. After 3 days treatment, estimates mortality increased 97% (39 patients).
