摘要: The pineal gland, the retinas and perhaps other tissues as well may in some species produce melatonin that appears significant quantities circulation. In at least one species, Japanese quail, circadian rhythm levels of circulating reflects contributions from both retinas; come exclusively or only eyes. Comparative behavioural physiological data several bird lizard indicate glands fulfil similar endocrine roles. Current evidence suggests iguanid lizards either glands, but not same have important regulatory influences on organization. This it should be relatively easy to influence melatonin-forming ability a tissue by natural selection, an interpretation bolstered our finding synthesize has been inadvertently eliminated laboratory mice, presumably selection involved producing inbred strains. genetics synthesis mice is briefly discussed.
