摘要: Eusociality is a highly conspicuous and ecologically impactful behavioral syndrome that has evolved independently across multiple animal lineages. So far, comparative genomic analyses of advanced sociality have been mostly limited to insects. Here, we study the only clade animals known exhibit eusociality in marine realm - lineages socially diverse snapping shrimps genus Synalpheus. To investigate molecular impact sociality, assembled mitochondrial genomes eight Synalpheus species represent three independent origins analyzed patterns evolution protein-coding genes. Synonymous substitution rates are lower potential signals relaxed purifying selection higher eusocial relative non-eusocial taxa. Our results suggest genome was shaped by eusociality-linked traits-extended generation times reduced effective population sizes hallmarks societies. This first direct evidence impacting also strongly support idea can shape through profound changes life history demography.
