摘要: Objective To measure the effect of giving out free smoke alarms on rates fires and fire related injury in a deprived multiethnic urban population. Design Cluster randomised controlled trial. Setting Forty electoral wards two boroughs inner London, United Kingdom. Participants Primarily households including elderly people or children that are housing rented from borough council. Intervention 20 050 alarms, fittings, educational brochures distributed installed request. Main outcome measures Rates injuries during years after distribution; alarm ownership, installation, function. Results Giving did not reduce to (rate ratio 1.3; 95% confidence interval 0.9 1.9), admissions hospital deaths (1.3; 0.7 2.3), attended by brigade (1.1; 0.96 1.3). Similar proportions intervention control had (36/119 (30%) v 35/109 (32%); odds 0.9; 0.5 1.7) working (19/118 (16%) 18/108 (17%); 0.4 1.8). Conclusions deprived, multiethnic, community fire, mostly because few been were maintained.
