摘要: Polar bears (Ursus maritimus) are usually considered a solitary species, but between 50 and 60% of the adult male polar captured on land during ice-free period in western Hudson Bay were sighted aggregations with mean size 4 range 2–14 individuals. The weight aggregating males was significantly greater (approximately 60 kg) than nonaggregating males, there no significant differences age. Aggregations occurred throughout (August–October) most common at prominent points along coast or nearby islands. Some locations used over several years. lack competition for food absence breeding activity produce conditions that may facilitate aggregating. Familiarity conspecifics yield benefits by reducing severity frequency resources sea ice.
