Cerium-iron-based magnetic compounds

摘要: New magnetic materials containing cerium, iron, and small additions of a third element are disclosed. These comprise compounds Ce(Fe 12−x M x ) where x=1-4, having the ThMn 12 tetragonal crystal structure (space group I4/mmm, #139). Compounds with M=B, Al, Si, P, S, Sc, Co, Ni, Zn, Ga, Ge, Zr, Nb, Hf, Ta, W identified theoretically, one class based on M=Si has been synthesized. The Si cognates characterized by large moments (4πM s greater than 1.27 Tesla) high Curie temperatures (264≦T c ≦305° C.). compound may contain or more Ti, V, Cr, Mo in combination an element. Further enhancement T is obtained nitriding Ce through heat treatment N 2 gas while retaining structure; for example CeFe 10 1.29 =426° C.
