摘要: Despite the well-established tropism of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) for human B lymphocytes, cell type within oropharynx capable allowing EBV replication has never been conclusively identified. Using in situ cytohybridization, we demonstrated DNA oropharyngeal epithelial cells from 10 12 patients with infectious mononucleosis. In duplicates specimens found to contain cell-associated DNA, detected RNA two four samples, using a biotin-labeled probe, thereby confirming intracellular location viral genome. 20 28 throat washings analyzed, cytohybridization results and assays cell-free were agreement. seven eight remaining specimens, identified absence detectable extracellular virus. We conclude that may be target is productively infected
