摘要: For many years microglia, the resident CNS macrophages, have been considered only in context of pathology, but microglia are also glia cells with important physiological functions. Microglia-derived oxidant production by NADPH oxidase (NOX2) is implicated disorders. Oxidants don't stand alone however, and not always pernicious. We discuss general terms, where available GSH synthesis relation to cystine import glutamate export, thioredoxin system as most antioxidative defense mechanism, further, we protein thiolation target redox proteins necessity for tightly localized, timed, confined work concert antioxidant promote signaling. NOX2-mediated signaling modulate acquisition classical or alternative activation phenotypes regulating major transcriptional programs mediated through NFkB Nrf2, regulators inflammatory response, respectively. As both antioxidants NOX-derived oxidants co-secreted, some instances may extend neighboring modification surface cytosolic proteins. consider a role paracrine synaptic function long term depression communication adaptive immune system. There little doubt that continued foray into functions response will reveal dynamic players signaling, which fulfill roles autocrine regulation essential enzymes programs.
