The effect of health and nutrition education intervention on women's postpartum beliefs and practices: a randomized controlled trial

摘要: 'Sitting month' is the Chinese tradition for postpartum customs. Available studies indicate that some of traditional practices are potentially harmful women's health. However, no intervention study aiming at has been performed. In this paper we evaluated effect a health and nutrition education intervention, which focused on improving dietary quality optimal behaviors. The design was randomized controlled trial conducted in both urban rural area Hubei between August 2003 June 2004. A total 302 women who attended antenatal clinic during third trimester with an uncomplicated pregnancy were recruited. Women to group received two two-hour prenatal sessions four counseling visits. Control usual care period. followed up until 42 days postpartum. Outcome measures knowledge, behavior, behavior problems groups exhibited significantly greater improvement overall behaviors such as consumption fruits, vegetables, soybean products well knowledge than those control groups.
