On-ground characterization of Rosetta/VIRTIS-M. I. Spectral and geometrical calibrations

摘要: The complete characterization of complex imaging spectrometers, such as VIRTIS-M (visual infrared thermal spectrometer) aboard the Rosetta mission, requires a detailed and prolonged activity starting with instrument integration continuing during entire operational life experiment. In this article we report main experimental activities realized on-ground characterizations to evaluate spectral geometric performances in order check conformance technical requirements derived from scientific goals Spectral calibrations allow confirm instrumental range, resolution, sampling; are necessary estimate pixel slit functions, field view extension, possible optical aberrations. Two separate sections dedicated each one these subjects, including strategy followed prepare measurements, basic description setups, analysis collected data.
