Methods of groundwater recharge estimation in eastern Mediterranean—a water balance model application in Greece, Cyprus and Jordan

摘要: Groundwater recharge studies in semi-arid areas are fundamental because groundwater is often the only water resource of importance. This paper describes balance method estimation three different hydro-climatic environments eastern Mediterranean, northwest Greece (Aliakmonas basin/Koromilia basin), Cyprus (Kouris basin and Larnaka area) Jordan (northern part Jordan). For Aliakmonas basin, was calculated for sub-catchments. Upper (Koromilia a watershed-distributed model developed maps were generated on daily basis. The mean annual varied between 50 75 mm/year (mean rainfall 800 mm/year). In Cyprus, estimates yielded 70 Kouris basin. area, ranged from 30 (lowland) to 200 (mountains). Jordan, results indicated rates ranging 80 very permeable karstified surfaces upper Salt where reaches 500 less than 10 about 1 southernmost north generated. used estimations many regions with climatic conditions has provided reliable results.
