Extraction and characterization of collagen from Antarctic and Sub-Antarctic squid and its potential application in hybrid scaffolds for tissue engineering

摘要: Collagen is the most abundant protein found in mammals and it exhibits a low immunogenicity, high biocompatibility biodegradability when compared with others natural polymers. For this reason, has been explored for development of biologically instructive biomaterials applications tissue substitution regeneration. Marine origin collagen pursued as an alternative to more common bovine porcine origins. This study focused on squid (Teuthoidea: Cephalopoda), particularly Antarctic Kondakovia longimana Sub-Antarctic Illex argentinus potential sources. In study, isolated from skins squids using acid-based pepsin-based protocols, higher yield being obtained I. presence pepsin. The produced characterized terms physicochemical properties, evidencing amino acid profile similar one calf collagen, but exhibiting less preserved structure, hydrolyzed portions lower melting temperature. Pepsin-soluble was selected further evaluation biomedical potential, exploring its incorporation poly-e-caprolactone (PCL) 3D printed scaffolds hybrid engineering, hierarchical features.
