摘要: This volume is an attack on television - and the "collaboration" between intellectuals media which, Bordieu argues, leading to new more invidious forms of dumbing down. He examines way in which apparently serious TV debate gives soundbite, as a series talking "experts" go through motions comment consideration increasingly self-referential circles. Known only for being well-known; professional with no legitimate claim that title; "fast-thinkers" longer capable thought; these members "pundit circuit" fatally compromise their integrity interests public image. The result: banal worthless drivel, shaped almost entirely by imperatives ratings wars rather than any truth. Television, Boudieu claims, has now had profound largely detrimental effect not just journalism, but formerly very separate worlds art, literature, philosophy, politics, justice even science all are danger forced submit what he describes "commercial plebiscite" audience ratings.
