Microstructural and Tribological Characterization of Atmospheric Plasma-Nitrided HS6-5-2C Tool Steel

摘要: The nitriding process is well known as a method to improve wear, strength and corrosion characteristics of materials surface. Institute Materials Science Leibniz Universitat Hannover on stage development new under atmospheric conditions. main purpose the research work formation nitrided layer locally loaded areas tool (e.g. forging die) conditions increase wear resistance durability operating tools. Nitride layers were generated steel HS6-5-2C using transmitted plasma arc. After samples investigated optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-Ray diffraction (XRD) microhardness testing techniques. It has been revealed that modified zone thickness after reaches 200 μm. TEM XRD analysis have shown phases corresponding iron nitrides formed in surface zone. Microhardness increased by 10% friction coefficient reduced approximately 50% comparison with base material.
