摘要: CONTEXT Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and mindfulness-based interventions are both efficacious pain management strategies. Combining these two therapeutic approaches may offer added benefits to patients. OBJECTIVES To determine whether engaging in a intervention before an OMT session improved outcomes. METHODS Patients seeking care from single osteopathic physician at integrative health clinic were recruited for this pilot randomized, controlled trial academic hospital. All patients scheduled structural evaluation with the provider March 2019 September eligible invited participate during reminder call their visit. Participants randomly assigned listen one of audio recordings matched length: (1) history medicine, or (2) guided mindfulness meditation practice. completed surveys including numeric rating scales measure embodied safety (a self-reported feeling that patient's body was safe place) immediately after listening recording. A global report along sensation manikin digital human figure silhouette overlaid grid 786 "sensation" pixels) capturing pleasant unpleasant collected session. Session satisfaction also assessed survey item. RESULTS total 57 participants enrolled study; however, 18 unable full recording excluded further analysis. The final study sample consisted 39 patients, 19 (48.7%) randomized 20 (51.3%) mean age years (standard deviation, 11.75 years); 25 (64.1%) women 14 (35.9%) men. most common primary location neck (16; 41.0%), followed by back (12; 30.8%) joint (5; 12.8%). Twenty cancer patients; (48.8%) did not have diagnosis. Practicing increased patients' sense mindful connection (p=0.036) within (p=0.026) bodies as well overall (p=0.037). Additionally, paired either condition (mindfulness vs. history) decreased (p<0.001) ratio sensations reported (p<0.001). Finally, regardless experimental history), predicted greater relief (β=-0.33, p=0.035) larger changes (β=0.37, p=0.030) session's end. less (β=-0.41, p=0.005) CONCLUSIONS This demonstrated feasibility integrating results suggest having audio-guided practice while waiting increase satisfaction. provides empirical evidence distribution decreasing reported.
