摘要: The regeneration of urban places is a major force in the landscape previously declining industrial cities. processes and policies have received considerable research over years, with particular emphasis on quantitative indicators to capture large-scale effects. One change has been rising role culture within regeneration. In this thesis, closer, qualitative view taken investigating regeneration, uncover narrative two related concerns cultural On one hand, risks homogenisation as standardised practices are transferred globally; other, demand for distinctiveness, regenerated areas demonstrate unique appealing characteristics mediate global processes, attract inward investment economic, social, human capital. The thesis focuses iconic space waterfront, studies three regenerating cities United Kingdom, studying dynamics culture, homogenisation, distinctiveness. From an initial synthesis theories, thematic framework constructed. then captures understanding those themes articulated by forty-seven elite actors who work case study waterfronts, exposing continuing impact place face homogenising forces.
