摘要: The influence of socioeconomic variables on nutrient intake is studied using nonparametric procedures that admit estimation multivariate functions. analysis indicates a nonlinear relation between intake, age, education, and income. Specifically, rises with income reaching an inflection point beyond which it essentially flat. Socioeconomic primarily at lower-income levels. Nonparametric prove useful in avoiding ad hoc specifications would fail to uncover these findings. Understanding the link nutritional well-being individuals their socioeco- nomic status important for influencing consumer behavior through public policy. Interest understanding this relationship dates back 1940s development "minimum cost" diet plans (Senauer, Asp, Kinsey). Adrain Daniel conducted one first comprehensive studies status. Since then, numerous researchers have reexamined newer data more innovative techniques. Senauer, Kinsey Morgan provide complete survey appraisal literature. They indicate while research area has progressed considerably, some key needs further investigation. In particular, Davis suggest need interdisciplinary better understand income, household size, education. literature contains diversity findings respect (Morgan). variation are reminiscent similar economic literature, where obtained wide range estimates elasticity even among very poor. This led debate regarding effectiveness increasing incomes alleviating malnutrition poor countries (Behrman, Deolalikar, Wolfe). Recent by Strauss Thomas Subramanian Deaton shown low partly due model misspecification. Measurement error may also cause differences
