摘要: We propose a novel metal-waveguide structure for sustaining long-range surface-plasmon-polaritons (LRSPP). The LRSPP waveguides are composed basically of two asymmetric metal layers: very thin, finite-width strip on top slab with dielectric gap in between them. Mode cut-off LRSPPs excited the double-metal is characterized by consistently investigating their dispersion relations and mode profiles. also confirm experimentally existence low-loss, well-confined modes measuring far-field outputs emerging from an edge waveguides. In experiment, we have fabricated several types SPP waveguide devices including straight lines, S-bend, Y-branch consisting gold strips (20 nm-thick, -wide). Overall propagation loss proposed quite comparable to that single metal-strip waveguides, addition sizes can be tuned increasing core-insulator layers get higher coupling efficiency single-mode fiber telecom wavelength. may open up realization SPP-waveguide sensors or nonlinear SPP-devices replacing bio-fluid medium.
