摘要: A laboratory study was conducted with white-footed mice (Peromyscus leucopus) to determine (1) if cohabitation and/or successful mating inhibits infanticide, and so for how long, (2) males females can discriminate between their own (familiar) strange (unfamiliar) pups. Infanticidal that were paired 15 days did not reproduce inhibited from killing pups, whereas infanticidal until they reproduced committing infanticide at 4 postpartum. Neither nor discriminated familiar unfamiliar pups regard engaging in infanticide. Approximately 50% of wild-caught killed the laboratory. pairs bred significantly sooner than noninfanticidal pairs. The results are consistent promiscuous nature P. leucopus territoriality females.
