Locum doctors in general practice: motivation and experiences.

摘要: BACKGROUND: There is evidence of dissatisfaction with locum doctors' performance, but little known about doctors who work as locums in general practice or their experiences this work. AIM: To describe the motivations and providing cover practices. METHOD: A postal questionnaire survey distributed to through organizations such groups, commercial agencies, RESULTS: Questionnaires were returned by 111 currently working practice. Four main reasons for a GP were: short-term option while between posts, gain experience different practices before commitment one practice, balance family other commitments, continue part-time after retirement. One-quarter responders intended indefinitely. The drawbacks included frustration low status, lack security, difficulty accessing structured training education. CONCLUSION: Locum are heterogeneous group that includes those have chosen type intend indefinitely represent useful resource primary care whose ability provide could be maximized. need control quality 'freelance' should not overshadow environments.
