摘要: The rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) is a common breeding bird in Iceland and the population shows fairly regular 10-year cycles. Independent of cycle has been declining 4% annually for last decades amplitude markedly reduced. In this study two questions are addressed. One whether generalist predators can cause dampening decline population. other there an age related difference chick production, which information needed to refine model Iceland. Hens were trapped areas Iceland, one north-east 2009 2010 close city Reykjavik south-west 2007 2008. Two groups identified, birds from previous summer (yearlings) older (adults). All hens radio tagged monitored once week during May through August. Mortality causes estimated as well reproductive success. result no statistical between regarding survival or number chicks August while was large. Survival reproduction higher where increased 3.7-fold season increase only 1.6-fold. proximate reason high predation by mammalian on low production.; Rjupa er algengur varpfugl Islandi og stofninn sýnir reglulegar sveiflur i fjolda.
