摘要: Background: Epidemiologic studies have indicated that a diet rich in fruit, antioxidants, and n-3 fatty acids may contribute to optimal respiratory health. We investigated whether low dietary nutrient intakes were associated with lower pulmonary function higher reporting of symptoms adolescents. Methods: examined the association factors (fruit, vegetables, vitamins C E, beta-carotene, retinol, acids) health cohort 2,112 twelfth-grade students 13 communities United States Canada during 1998 1999 school year. assessed associations between linear mixed models, logistic regression using generalized estimating equation adjusted for individual group-level covariates. Results: Low fruit intake was FEV 1 (− 1.3% predicted; 95% confidence interval [CI], − 2.4 0.2% predicted), increased odds chronic bronchitic (odds ratio [OR], 1.36; CI, 1.03 1.73) compared intake. (OR, 1.37; 1.05 1.81), wheeze 1.34; 1.06 1.69), asthma 1.68; 1.18 2.39) Smokers vitamin had ORs smokers who Conclusions: Adolescents lowest antioxidant antiinflammatory micronutrients symptoms, especially among smokers, suggesting adequate promote lessen effects oxidative stress.
