摘要: [1] The subsurface transfer of water from a mountain block to an adjacent basin (mountain recharge (MBR)) is commonly invoked mechanism intermountain basins. However, MBR estimates are highly uncertain. We present approach characterize bulk fluid circulation in and thus that utilizes environmental tracers the aquifer. Noble gas temperatures, groundwater ages, temperature data combined with heat flow modeling used identify clearly improbable regimes southeastern Salt Lake Valley, Utah, Wasatch Mountains. The range possible rates reduced by 70%. Derived (5.5–12.6 × 104 m3 d−1) on same order magnitude as previous large estimates, indicating significant basins plausible. derived 50–100% lowest estimate, meaning total probably less than previously thought.
