Bastille Day storm: Global response of the terrestrial ring current

摘要: Global images of the Earth's inner magnetosphere and its response to coronal mass ejection (CME) on 15 July 2000 were obtained by IMAGE spacecraft. The taken in energetic neutral atoms (ENA) High-Energy Neutral Atom (HENA) imager. ENAs are produced charge exchange between hot ion population cold hydrogen geocorona. ENA show how plasma is injected into nightside as interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) turns strongly southward. As IMF B z increases storm intensity decreases, that ring current becomes closed symmetric reaches positive values.
