摘要: Worldwide there is large variation in the age at which young macaques destined for use research are permanently separated from their mothers, and subsequent social environment they reared. This stems minimum weaning ages rearing practices guidelines on laboratory animal care use, as well scientific, business other considerations. article summarises literature effects of policy behavioural physical development macaques, supplemented with production data breeding colonies rhesus long-tailed macaques. The aim to help guide decision-making improve welfare quality science. On basis evidence reviewed here, unless strong justification artificial scientific or health grounds, it preferable remain mothers until have become behaviourally independent. Minimum should therefore not normally be less than 10–14 months old, but weight, criteria used determine most appropriate each individual monkey.
