摘要: Abstract We report the toxic effects of 3,4-dimethoxyphenylethylamine (DMPEA), and tetrahydropapaverine (THP) on rat nigrostriatal system; THP is a tetrahydroisoquinoline compound which may be derived from DMPEA by conjugation its oxidative metabolite, dimethoxyphenylacetaldehyde; both are potent inhibitors mitochondrial complex I. These compounds were introduced to unilateral caudate-putamen male Sprague–Dawley rats over 7 days using 200-μl mini-osmotic pump. Striatal dopamine injected side showed significant decrease 86% non-injected after 16.55 μmol/7 infusion DMPEA, 73% 7.90 infusion; as also reduced in THP-injected rats, was 55% saline control. Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH)-positive nigral neurons decreased 76% 77% infusion. Dimethoxyphenyl-tetrahydroisoquinoline appear neurotoxins.
