Meteorological characteristics of the Po Valley fog

摘要: The meteorological situation during the first joint field campaign from 10-17 November 1989 of EUROTRAC subproject GCE is discussed. synoptic illustrated by weather charts and satellite pictures. Backtrajectories were calculated in order to identify origins airmasses reaching observation point. Model calculations performed explain observed counter current channelling Po Valley. For 5 different fog episodes observed, liquid water content, temperature, humidity, wind speed are displayed as a function height. Possible reasons for formation, evolution, dissipation It was found that radiation effects only played minor role. Most time, at site either advected or formed due advection cold moist air.
