摘要: abstract To monitor small earthquakes on the ocean bottom or in remote areas land, a seismic recording system should operate at low power for extended periods of time, reproduce three components ground motion with large dynamic range, and preferably be inexpensive. We describe such based an event detector, which continuously surveys background noise, sets threshold, triggers inexpensive digital tape recorder when signal exceeds that threshold. Event offers advantages over conventional continuous more efficient use storage capacity easier later interpretation. A key element is updated semiconductor buffer memory, assures first arrivals are included. Average consumption about watt. The design easily adaptable to monitoring other types rare events unpredictable occurrence.
