Responses of 322 mothers 4-6-month-old infants suggested that they regard the fussy, hard-to-soothe, labile infant difficult. Mother report on ICQ, particularly main fussy-difficult factor found to have adequate reliability over time and convergence with Carey Survey Temperamental Characteristics, father and, lower degree, home data collected by independent observers. It also mother characteristics may affect perceptions difficultness: multiparous, extraverted tended rate their easy.
