摘要: Objective— To determine the effect of intrathecal amikacin administration and repeated tenovaginocentesis on total nucleated cell count (TNCC), protein (TP) concentration cytologic characteristics synovial fluid equine digital flexor tendon sheath (DFTS). Study Design— Randomized, cross-over experimental design. Animals— Adult horses (n=8). Methods— Synovial was aseptically collected from DFTS either 1 mL sulfate (250 mg/mL) or lactated Ringer's solution (LRS) injected into DFTS. Serial samples were obtained at 0, 12, 24, 48, 72 hours. The opposite treatment administered to contralateral after a washout period 2 weeks. Results— Treatment increased TP concentration, TNCC, percentage neutrophils, neutrophil counts baseline levels. There no difference between with LRS. Values peaked 12–24 hours initial centesis then declined toward levels. Conclusions— Injection repeat normal 250 mg an equivalent volume LRS resulted in mild increases analytes baseline. inflammation this study not accompanied by lameness walk measured returned levels within first injection. Clinical Relevance— values are modest most horses; however, some can develop marked that may be interpreted as sepsis.
