Use of simian immunodeficiency viruses for AIDS research.

摘要: Despite frequent statements to the contrary, there are good animal models for AIDS. In this review, we summarize properties of one most useful models: infection rhesus monkeys with simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). The SIVs an extensive group HIV-related lentiviruses nonhuman primates. They closely resemble human AIDS viruses, HIV-1 and HIV-2, in both genetic sequence biological properties. Some SIV isolates, notably those derived from macaques mangabeys, induce a time frame suitable laboratory investigation. Rhesus not endangered wild, they breed well captivity, available reasonably large numbers.
