摘要: Despite frequent statements to the contrary, there are good animal models for AIDS. In this review, we summarize properties of one most useful models: infection rhesus monkeys with simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). The SIVs an extensive group HIV-related lentiviruses nonhuman primates. They closely resemble human AIDS viruses, HIV-1 and HIV-2, in both genetic sequence biological properties. Some SIV isolates, notably those derived from macaques mangabeys, induce a time frame suitable laboratory investigation. Rhesus not endangered wild, they breed well captivity, available reasonably large numbers. Study has already resulted seminal contributions regarding origins HIVs, pathogenesis, vaccine therapy research. Continued use systems will be important weapon our arsenal against
