摘要: The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe is an important model organism for the study of eukaryotic molecular and cellular biology. Studies S. pombe, together with studies its distant cousin, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, have led to discovery genes involved in fundamental mechanisms transcription, translation, DNA replication, cell cycle control, signal transduction, name but a few processes. However, since divergence two species approximately 350 million years ago, appears evolved less rapidly than cerevisiae so that it retains more characteristics common ancient ancestor, causing share features metazoan cells. This Primer introduces by describing itself, providing brief description origins research, illustrating some genetic bioinformatics tools used protein function yeast. In addition, section on key differences between included readers familiarity budding research who may interest developing projects using pombe.
