摘要: Although it is an important component of the northern forest, eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis (L.) Carr.) a secondary species in its regions' markets. In this paper, we examine markets for hemlock, analyze price trends stumpage, and suggest implications market forces management forests containing hemlock. The characteristics wood limit use to relatively low-grade products, such as structural lumber, pulpwood, pallets, although higher value niche exist, post beam house frames. Analysis sawlog pulpwood stumpage prices from publicly available reports indicates little change inflation-adjusted over long time periods. Such performance that supply more than adequate meet demand throughout hemlock's natural range. Markets have rarely been strong are not likely become so. Therefore, forest plans require removal may opportunistic harvesting decisions. Eastern nonmarket values must also be incorporated into plans.
