摘要: A practical method using spreadsheets is proposed for calculating the Hasofer-Lind second moment reliability index 13. Two example problems involving correlated normals and nonnormals, respectively, are solved compared with established mathematical approach. The based on per spective of an ellipsoid that tangent to failure surface in original space random variables; concepts transformed or reduced variates not required. Correlation accounted by setting up quadratic form spreadsheet. Nonnormals dealt relationships between non normal distribution its equivalent distribution. Iterative searching performed automatically invoking a spreadsheet's optimization tool. An advantage spreadsheet partial derivatives part input; may therefore be especially attractive cases complicated nonexplicit performance functions.
