摘要: A practical method using spreadsheets is proposed for calculating the Hasofer-Lind second moment reliability index 13. Two example problems involving correlated normals and nonnormals, respectively, are solved compared with established mathematical approach. The based on per­ spective of an ellipsoid that tangent to failure surface in original space random variables; concepts transformed or reduced variates not required. Correlation accounted by setting up quadratic form spreadsheet. Nonnormals dealt relationships between non­ normal distribution its equivalent distribution. Iterative searching performed automatically invoking a spreadsheet's optimization tool. An advantage spreadsheet partial derivatives part input; may therefore be especially attractive cases complicated nonexplicit performance functions.
