摘要: A major goal of primate evolutionary morphology is to relate limb anatomy aspects locomotor or postural behavior an entire regime positional behavior. If well established in living forms these relationships provide the necessary framework for reconstruction extinct species and answer questions concerning evolution systems that were impetus 1965 conference (Kinzey, 1967). Studies this sort usually proceed by noting salient differences two more species, establishing correlations between two, attempting explain using causal arguments derived from biomechanical principles (e.g., Ashton Oxnard, 1964; Fleagle, 1977a,b; Fleagle Meldrum, 1988). Obviously, success such endeavor depends on quality both morphological behavioral data sets (Ripley, 1967; 1979). In her contribution symposium, Ripley pointed out how lack detailed information hampered efforts assess importance behaviors construct realistic groupings classifications. Morphologists tend “underestimate rich complexity underestimate difficulties involved relating habitual behavior” 1965:167). She especially criticized attempts define types primates basis insufficient information. At conference, (1967) Kinzey challenged primatologists collect alleviate problems. (1967:149) outlined elements “an exhaustive study total pattern” before categorizations would be meaningful.
