摘要: We predict and experimentally verify an entoptic phenomenon through which humans are able to perceive discriminate optical spin-orbit states. Direct perception discrimination of these particular states light with polarization-coupled spatial modes is possible the observation distinct profiles induced by interaction between polarization topologies radially symmetric dichroic elements that centered on foveola in macula human eye. A psychophysical study was conducted where a superposition right left circular coupled two different orbital angular momentum (OAM) values ([Formula: see text] [Formula: text]) were directed onto retina participants. The number azimuthal fringes sees when viewing shown be equal (N) radial lines corresponding profile beam, participants correctly carrying OAM differentiated text], average success probability 77.6% (average sensitivity text]). These results enable methods robustly characterizing structure macula, probing signaling pathways, conducting experiments detectors nonseparable modes.
