Why some adolescents lose weight and others do not: a qualitative study.

摘要: Objectives: Understanding the experiences of overweight adolescents who have lost weight may be useful in creation effective loss programs. Our objective was to identify differences between overweight, inner-city compared gained over time. Methods: A qualitative study a convenience sample adolescents, comparing those whose body mass index (BMI)-for-age decreased BMI-for-age increased, done period 2 years. Focus groups and in-depth interviews were analyzed by constant comparative method; frequencies thematic responses compared. Results: Adolescents both had poor diets, similar rates eating with parents, complex effects monetary constraints, ambivalence about being lived unsafe neighborhoods. Weight-losing more likely describe transformative experience, which changed their view themselves world regard activity; engage intense, daily exercise; family members supported healthy dietary behavior. Conclusion: Transformative experiences, intense exercise, support appeared critical elements for reduction adolescents. This information guide development strategies.
