摘要: We sequenced 965 base pairs of the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome b from 102 woodmice (Apodemus sylvaticus) collected 40 European localities. The aims study were to answer following questions. (i) Did Mediterranean peninsulas play a role as refuge for woodmice? (ii) Is genetic variability A. sylvaticus higher in region compared with northern Europe? (iii) Are patterns postglacial colonization Europe by similar those presently recognized other species? results provide clear picture impact Quaternary glaciations on and geographical structure woodmouse. Our analyses indicate Europe, suggesting former regions this small mammal. An original pattern post-glacial is proposed where Iberian southern France populations colonized almost all regions. Sicilian population appears be very differentiated highly variable. This emphasizes importance island ‘hot spot’ intraspecific diversity Finally, North Africa iriginated southwestern most probably result recent anthropogenic introduction.
