摘要: In light of some basic desert demography, this paper examines governance patterns for small settlements. It traces policy histories which led to the emergence highly localised, single settlement arrangements during 1970s and ’80s. also identifies many pushes since within Northern Territory local government system more regional, multi-settlement structures. The goes on examine history one such arrangement in central Australia, Anmatjere Community Government Council established 1993. details our work with over last 4 years ‘issues importance or concern’ them. aims learn from ACGC experience order inform radical restructuring currently underway towards larger regionalism. concludes four specific lessons, most important is that regionalism must build localism.
