All-optical quaternary computing and information processing: a promising path

摘要: Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) tech- nology has revolutionized the electronics industry and established 20th century as computer age. But, an alternative technological solution to problem of high speed computing is needed, unless we gear our thoughts toward a totally different pathway, will not be able further improve information processing performance for future. The Multi- valued logic (MVL) positioned coming generation technology that can execute arithmetic functions faster with less interconnect than binary logic. All-optical quaternary computing, based on radix-4 number system, may next system. In this paper have tried give outline schemes where future research explored. We also shown probable programmable device in optical computer.
