摘要: Enterococci are the third most common nosocomial bloodstream pathogen and frequently causative pathogen(s) of intra-abdominal, genitourinary, surgical wound, endovascular, or other serious infections. In addition to a diverse spectrum intrinsic acquired antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, some strains enterococci exhibit numerous virulence factors that facilitate mucosal adherence, tissue invasiveness, endovascular attachment, inflammation production. However, opportunistic nature enterococcal infection coupled with animal models experimental mixed have caused many question independent capacity this organism incite severe sepsis septic shock. Despite evidence suggesting possesses low virulence, observational interventional trials bacteremia strongly support notion Enterococcus is capable promulgating as solitary copathogen more sequelae in immunocompromised hosts. Monomicrobial appears be increasing during glycopeptide-resistant era, which bolsters pure real entity.
