摘要: Objectives The purpose of this study was to assess vascular dysfunction in young smokers by high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Background Cigarette smoking is a well-known cause endothelial dysfunction, reflected impaired brachial artery reactivity hyperemia. We hypothesized that induces both peripheral and altered function central conduit arteries, these global changes could be directly quantified single noninvasive examination using MRI. Methods A total 22 healthy volunteers (mean age 31 ± 2 years; 12 nonsmokers, 10 smokers: cumulative cigarette consumption 11.9 6.0 pack-years) underwent MRI distensibility pulse-wave velocity (PWV), cross-sectional flow-mediated dilation (FMD) the artery. Results Brachial FMD significantly reduced compared with nonsmokers (7.5 2.7% vs. 15.5 2.0%; p = 0.03), indicating endothelium-dependant relaxation, whereas endothelium-independent responses sublingual glyceroltrinitrate(400 μg) were identical groups. Impaired accompanied striking decreases common carotid arteries (−45.7%; 0.02) at multiple sites aorta (ascending −26.9%, 0.04; thoracic descending −25.0%, 0.01; abdominal −25.5%, 0.02). Aortic arch PWV increased 19% (p Conclusions function. Direct quantification parameters will provide powerful new approaches assessment disease pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment.
